Artisans work with a cooperative located outside of Taxco, Mexico, which is the silver capital of the world. Some of them were taught the craft by their fathers, others were taught by women in the group. Regardless, the tradition of silversmithing in these small villages goes back generations, and it is the livelihood of most people in the area. The artisans are able to work from their homes, which allows them to care for their children while earning a living wage.
