Palewa Stone Incense Plate, India

Availability: In stock (2)

Stylish and sleek, this fair trade palewa stone incense plate is sustainably handmade by artisans in India. Holds up to five sticks of incense.  Centuries ago, skilled stone workers were brought to Agra under Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to build the Taj Mahal. Today their descendants remain in the region, using the same tools and methods to achieve intricate soapstone carvings and inlay for beautiful sculptures and decorative pieces.

Artisans work with Tara Projects, an organization that ensures their health and safety, that they receive fair prices for their art and that emphasizes the importance of education for their children.
